But it wasn’t until the 1960s that the U.S. Government finally made the use of laminated glass mandatory on all new cars.

Originally, cars were built without windows, but as the development of the car took place, windshields were implemented as well as auto glass all around the vehicle. These innovations continued to take form as the years developed and automobiles turned into a more luxurious object of possession. Manufacturers started developing rounded and more aerodynamic frames which developed the need for curved glass.
